Duncan Palmer: A True Unsung Hero
The Old Carey Football Club Executive Committee nominated Duncan Palmer for a VAFA Certificate of Merit for his unwavering contribution to the club over the past 30 years. Pleasingly this nomination was ratified by the VAFA.
Duncan, affectionately known as ‘Beersy’, joined the club in the early 1990s after completing his high school education at Camberwell Grammar. Though he played 50 games across 13 seasons, his impact was most felt off the field, where he built a reputation as a dependable hand and cult figure.
Duncan has selflessly volunteered for every role conceivable, from serving on the committee to managing teams, serving dinner, and tracking game day stats. His altruism extends beyond the club, as he is also a dedicated volunteer at his children’s Little Athletics Centre and a basketball coach and manager.
Duncan’s commitment to the club is almost unequalled, and he is loved by all. Some of the club’s most qualified and enduring members provided glowing testimonies of his contribution as part of the submission, and the club is proud that the distinguished selection committee recognized his efforts with a VAFA Certificate of Merit.
