Chalk this win up to the Burlin Electrical Panther Academy

It’s without doubt that the Burlin Electrical Panther Academy has played a central role in the rapid-fire success of Luke Kelvie.

Kelvie, a highly talented school footballer, had his year 12 season in 2020 canceled due to COVID-19. This disappointment, which took away his chance to shine and experience a traditional school rite of passage, led him to step away from the sport for three years. During this time, he remained active, playing soccer, running marathons as you do, but AFL footy was no longer any priority.

In 2024, seeing his former schoolmates find premiership success at VAFA level, Kelvie decided to return to the game. He committed to an Old Carey preseason, where he also spent significant time with Jeremy Dickson at the newly formed Burlin Electrical Panther Academy. Dickson, recognising his limitless talent – had spent years trying to convince Kelvie to return.

Kelvie quickly began to stand out when matches resumed in 2025. His exceptional fitness, clean hands, and precise foot skills caught the attention of both teammates,opponents and coaches, and by the midpoint of the season, VFL clubs began to show interest.

With the guidance of Jeremy Dickson, Kelvie signed with Coburg, and just six weeks later (10 August 2025), he will make his debut for the Coburg Lions.

Old Carey is incredibly proud of Luke’s continuing journey and the part the club played in revitalizing his passion for the sport, providing him with coaching and professional opportunities.
